L. Nelson Hopkins, M.D.
Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, Professor of Radiology, and Director of the Toshiba Stroke Research Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo

After completing his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University, Dr. Hopkins was a cum laude graduate of Albany Medical College. His post-graduate training included a surgical internship at Case Western Reserve, followed by neurosurgical training at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Active in national neurosurgery, Dr. Hopkins has served on numerous boards and committees. In April 1996, he completed a two-year term as Chairman of the Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS). He has served as Scientific and Annual Meeting Chairman for both the CNS and ANNS. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association (AHA). He is a member of the editorial board of Neurosurgery. Dr. Hopkins currently serves as treasurer of the Academy of Neurosurgery and is also a member of the Andreas Gruentzig Society, a unique group of interventional cardiologists, vascular radiologists, neuroradiologists, angiologists and cardiovascular surgeons. Dr. Hopkins is Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, Professor of Radiology, and Director of the Toshiba Stroke Research Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
